Multifamily Murals: Bringing Apartment Communities to Life
I’ve painted a lot of murals in multifamily properties over the years, and they continue to be some of my favorite projects.
There are just so many opportunities to do something cool.
Leasing offices, lobbies, pool decks, parking garages, fitness centers, clubhouses, mailrooms, amenity spaces, wayfinding—these properties are basically giant canvases.
And murals don’t always have to be the giant “statement wall.”
Sometimes it’s a subtle graphic behind the leasing desk. A huge piece wrapping a pool deck. Artwork that helps make a parking garage actually feel interesting. Or wayfinding that gets you where you need to go without looking like boring directional signage.
Making the Property Feel Like That Property
This is the part I really enjoy.
I’m always looking for ways to make the artwork specific to the property and the people who live there. Local landmarks, neighborhood history, architecture, plants, typography, weird little references and Easter eggs—all of it can make its way into the work.
The goal isn’t to slap a generic mural on a wall.
It’s to create something that feels like it could only exist there.
Leasing Offices, Lobbies & Amenity Spaces
These are often the first spaces potential residents see, so they’re a great place to establish some personality.
Custom murals can completely change a leasing office or apartment lobby without changing the entire space. The same goes for clubhouses, coworking areas, fitness centers and resident lounges.
A blank wall can do a lot more work than people think.
Pool Decks & Outdoor Murals
I love a good pool deck wall.
They’re usually big, visible and begging for something interesting. They also end up becoming natural backdrops for resident events, property photography and social content—which is a nice bonus.
Parking Garages & Wayfinding
Hear me out: parking garages can actually be cool.
Murals, oversized numbers, typography, color, illustrations and environmental graphics can help residents navigate a property while making these otherwise forgotten spaces feel like part of the overall design.
Wayfinding doesn’t have to scream WAYFINDING.
It can just be good design.
