Burgers, stars, and bold colors — my new mural at Ace No.3 is a love letter to vintage Americana food ads and one of my biggest design inspirations, Charles S. Anderson.
A Nod to Americana
The mural pulls directly from the graphic language of classic mid-century advertising — bold typography, punchy color, and playful repetition. It’s the kind of design that once lit up diners, drive-ins, and corner stores, reimagined in a way that feels fresh on the walls of Charlotte today.
Design Roots and Inspiration
For years, I’ve looked to Charles S. Anderson’s work for inspiration. His ability to remix vintage design with modern storytelling is unmatched — and a huge influence on how I approach my own art.
Funny enough, a few years ago I was in Minneapolis and stumbled into his studio completely by chance. I had no idea it was his space until I was already inside. To unexpectedly find myself in the orbit of one of my design heroes was surreal — and it makes this project feel like a full-circle moment.
More Than a Burger Spot
Ace No.3 isn’t just another burger joint. It’s a brand rooted in culture, character, and community — which makes it a perfect canvas for this kind of work. This mural is about more than decoration: it’s about connecting a local favorite with the timeless design language of Americana.
The Bigger Picture
Every mural is an opportunity to push my visual language forward while honoring the cultural spaces I work in. This one in particular combines my illustrative style with the bold, print-driven look that hooked me on design in the first place.
