My latest portrait study focuses on Connor McDavid, using my deconstructed approach to editorial illustration to tell a larger story beyond the traditional athlete portrait. The piece combines McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers career with references to Alberta, Canadian hockey, the wild rose, and other details pulled from his career and background.
This is the kind of work I love creating, researching a subject, finding the smaller stories and visual references, and building them into one image through portraiture, collage, and graphic storytelling. While this piece was self-initiated, the same approach translates directly to commissioned editorial illustration, sports features, athlete profiles, magazine covers, and brand campaigns. Connor McDavid (2026) is also available as a signed and numbered limited edition fine art print.
