It’s been a while since I’ve released a Charlotte-themed print, and honestly, I didn’t want to make another skyline.
Lately I’ve been having a lot of fun with the direction of my new portraits. Layering vintage imagery, typography, symbols and hidden references together to tell more of a story. I wanted to take that same visual language and apply it to Charlotte.
“Made in Charlotte” is built around a vintage panther carrying the Queen City crown, with Charlotte and North Carolina references hidden throughout the piece, some obvious, others buried as tattoos, marks and faded graphics.
The whole thing has this tonal, almost-found-vintage-ephemera feeling that feels really fresh to me. It’s still very much my work, but I can feel the language evolving, and I’m excited about where it’s heading.
And, of course, it was quite literally Made in Charlotte.
