As a Bruins fan it killed me to make this illustration. As an art and hockey fan though, I think Auston Matthews is an incredible player as well as an incredible product for the NHL. For a long time NHL players shied away from the national spotlight. The NBA, NFL, and even the MLB has had it’s “Prime Time” players as products for a long time. All that is changing now and we’re seeing a huge swing in young NHL players understanding they are also a brand and can be something bigger than just the game of hockey.
